Thong completed a double degree Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy) from the University of Wollongong in June 1997.
In 1994, Thong completed the Bachelor of Commerce with Merit, which was awarded to the top 25% of undergraduate commerce students. Also in 1994, the Faculty of Law offered Thong a tutorship in Contract Law after his high achievement in Contract Law and Company Law. Thong tutored first year Contract Law students until he completed his Law Degree in June 1997. Thong came first in that mid-year graduation and continued tutoring until the end of 1997 when the Wollongong Law School offered him a full-time lectureship. From 1998 to 2000, Thong was the subject co-ordinator of Contract Law, Administrative Law and Constitutional Law. During his time as a full-time law lecturer, Thong was also enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy program involved original research in Contract Law (within the Vietnamese Community in Australia). Thong resigned at the beginning of 2000 in order to practice law in the private sector. He completed a Practical Legal Training Program provided by the Wollongong Law Faculty and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in August 2000.
Throughout Thong’s years of practice as a solicitor, he has worked on a variety of legal matters in the areas of family law, litigation, personal injury, worker compensation, probate, conveyancing, property law and commercial law. After more than 15 years practising law in different areas of laws, Thong’s current main areas of practice are family law, probate, wills, property law and commercial law.
With a strong commercial and legal background, plus extensive experience in explaining difficult legal concepts to first year law students, Thong is always able to provide clients with clear, precise, and “easy to understand” legal advice.
